Up to now, we’ve used Substack as a publishing channel for Hagar’s books “Land of Promises” and “In the Footsteps of Anna Maria Cornelia Grader”. Hagar writes, then I do some editing, she reads the results and makes some more changes.
In the past couple of years Hagar has been making digital images, and we’ve made virtual exhibitions of them. We found that a video of a guided tour of such an exhibition enables a synchronicity between image and music that would otherwise be completely impossible, so we’ve been publishing these virtual guided tours as videos on YouTube.
Hagar’s book Land of Promises describes growing up in Israel, and it provides an image of scheming, cheating and stealing on a national level that is naturally reflected on a personal level. Since the 7 October attacks, which we heard live on Channel 12 (or was it 14), and the response, we’ve not only become instantly aware of Israel’s genocidal tendencies, we’ve also been more and more affected by the criminal behaviour of the Western World and its press corps, with its tacit approval and complicity in genocide and its continuation of a narrative that can only be described as gaslighting on a global level. Every day we experience rage and pain because of the sadism exhibited by Israel. Every day we want to do something.
This past week we made this video as our artistic expression of resistance and as a work of art which does what art does - it holds up a mirror society doesn’t want to look at. This is what we can do and it’s what we feel we must do.
